ECHD Reaccredited by PHAB

[Sandusky, OH] – December 4, 2024 – The Erie County Health Department (ECHD) is proud
to announce that it has successfully achieved reaccreditation from the Public Health
Accreditation Board (PHAB). This significant accomplishment underscores the ECHD’s
commitment to quality improvement and public health excellence.

PHAB accreditation is a rigorous process that evaluates an agency’s performance across a
wide range of quality standards. This reaccreditation demonstrates the ECHD’s continued
dedication to providing high-quality public health services to the community.

“We are honored to receive this recognition from PHAB,” Peter T. Schade, Erie County Health
Commissioner. “This achievement reflects the hard work and dedication of our staff, who are
committed to improving the health and well-being of our community.”

The ECHD was first accredited by PHAB in 2016; the agency was one of the first local health
departments in the United States to become PHAB accredited. This reaccreditation signifies
the agency’s ongoing commitment to continuous quality improvement and public health best practices.

The Public Health Accreditation Board (PHAB) is a non-profit organization that accredits public health departments across the United States. PHAB’s rigorous accreditation process evaluates a health department’s performance, ensuring that they are providing high-quality services to their communities. This accreditation signifies that the ECHD has met the highest standards of public health practice and is committed to continuous improvement. It also demonstrates the agency’s transparency and accountability to the public, fostering trust and confidence in the services provided.
