The Office of Epidemiology & Surveillance is responsible for the prevention and control of infectious disease throughout Erie County. Case identification, assessment, data collection, public health education, and referral to community resources are key factors in protecting public health.
In Ohio, there are over 80 different diseases that are reportable to public health. This means that an occurrence of cases or suspected cases of these diseases are reported by healthcare providers and laboratories to the local health department. Diseases that are reportable to public health in Ohio are outlined in Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3701-3.
