ECHD Awarded $1.1 Million

Erie County Health Department/Erie County Community Health Center Awarded $1.1 Million to Enhance Behavioral Health Services and Programs

[Sandusky, OH] – September 30, 2024 – The Erie County Health Department is
pleased to announce that it has been awarded $1,100,000 in federal funding for the
Erie County Community Health Center. The funding, from the Health Resources and
Services Agency (HRSA) will be used to expand and enhance the behavioral and
mental health services offered by the ECCHC throughout the tri-county region.

The grant funding will be used to expand behavioral health services offered through
the Erie County Community Health Center, the Erie County Detox, and Kaptur
Rogowski House. These programs provide a range of behavioral and mental health
services, including individual therapy, group therapy, medication management,
addiction treatment services and crisis intervention. EHCD/ECCHC staff members also
provide case management and connection to needed community resources for our
community’s most vulnerable populations.

“Access to behavioral health services is critical for all of our community members,”
said Health Commissioner Pete Schade. “With the funding we have already hired a
new medical doctor, a new behavioral/mental health counselor, and a new community
health engagement specialist. The Erie County Community Health Center is a trusted
community partner and member. This funding is essential for expanding access to
services for our entire community.”

ECCHC is the only comprehensive Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) in tri
county area of Erie, Huron, and Ottawa counties. FQHC’s are a cornerstone of public
health infrastructure, assuring continued access to comprehensive, culturally
competent, high-quality primary health care services.

This funding is designed to address the intersection of poverty and
mental/behavioral health issues by better connecting individuals and families
with the type of behavioral or mental health services or community resources
needed to improve their quality of life.
