Erie County Health Department Expands Dental Services with Advanced Crown
Technology

[Sandusky, Ohio – March 6, 2025] The Erie County Health Department and Erie County Health
Center are expanding dental services with the addition of dental crowns, made possible by a
recent grant from Delta Dental. This significant advancement in technology will enhance patient
care and streamline the process of receiving high-quality dental restorations.

With grant funding, ECHD/ECCHC were able to purchase the PrimeScan digital impression
system. This cutting-edge technology allows our dental professionals to create precise digital
impressions of patients’ teeth, eliminating the need for traditional, often uncomfortable, physical
molds. This digital data is then used to create custom-made dental crowns, offering patients a
convenient, single-visit solution. Staff also completed additional training in the use of the system
as well as the need for this type of dental restoration.

“We are thrilled to bring this innovative technology to our community,” said Nicole Ziegler, RN,
Chief Health Services Officer, Erie County Health Department. “The PrimeScan system allows us
to provide faster, more accurate, and more comfortable dental crown procedures. This
advancement aligns with our commitment to delivering accessible and high-quality dental care to
our community.”

Dental crowns are a vital restoration for damaged or weakened teeth, providing strength,
protection, and improved aesthetics. The new dental crown services are available at the Erie
County Health Department’s main campus located at 420 Superior Street in Sandusky. We accept
most insurances, and a sliding fee scale is available for those who qualify.
“This grant funding allows us to invest in technology that directly benefits our patients,” said Pete
Schade, Health Commissioner. “By expanding our dental services with the PrimeScan system, we
are making essential oral health care more accessible and efficient for our community.”
