What Public Health Looks Like in Erie County

Public health is more than programs—it’s people, partnerships, and access to care that meets the needs of the entire community.

During National Public Health Week, the Erie County Health Department (ECHD) is proud to highlight how we deliver integrated health services in Erie County, Ohio, making it easier for individuals and families to get the care they need in one place.

From preventive care to treatment and recovery services, our mission is simple: remove barriers and improve health outcomes for everyone we serve.

A One-Stop Approach to Community Health Care in Erie County, Ohio

At ECHD and the Erie County Community Health Center (ECCHC), we’ve built a model designed around one-stop health care services for families.

Our Circle of Care includes:

  • Primary care and women’s health services through our Federally Qualified Health Center
  • Pharmacy services through our Erie Community Pharmacy to ensure access to medications and coordinated care
  • Mental health services and counseling support
  • Kaptur Recovery Services for detox, residential, and outpatient addiction treatment
  • Compass Point for Alzheimer’s and dementia care and caregiver support
  • Sandusky Aquatic Center programming to promote physical activity and wellness

By bringing these services together, we are improving community health and making care more accessible, connected, and effective.

Improving Access and Outcomes for Every Family in Erie County

Access to school-based and community health care plays a critical role in long-term health outcomes.

By meeting patients where they are—whether at a health center, in the community, or through specialized programs—we reduce common barriers like transportation, cost, and time. The ECCHC currently has eight locations in Huron, Erie, and Ottawa Counties, including three School Based Health Centers (at the Vermilion High School, at the EHOVE Career Center, and at the Sandusky Career Center), and will open our fourth School Based Health Center at the Margaretta School District, in just a few weeks.

Our Circle of Care ensures that families can receive primary care, dental and mental health services, and addiction treatment without navigating multiple systems. Instead, care is coordinated, streamlined, and centered around the patient.

During National Public Health Week and beyond, we remain committed to providing care that is truly closer to care for every individual, every family, and every stage of life.
