MATERNAL & CHILD HEALTH – CRIBS FOR KIDS: SAFE SLEEP PROGRAM

Cribs For Kids PhotoEvery year in the United States, approximately 4,000 infant deaths occur due to accidental suffocation, asphyxia, or undetermined causes during sleep. According to the Ohio Department of Health, every week in Ohio, 3 babies die in unsafe sleep environments. The mission of the Erie County Cribs for Kids Safe Sleep Program is to prevent infant sleep-related deaths by educating parents and caregivers on the importance of practicing safe sleep for their babies and by providing portable cribs to families who, otherwise, cannot afford a safe place for their babies to sleep.

ECHD PROVIDES:

Baby Sleep Safe participants will receive:

  • Safe Sleep Education
  • Safe Sleep Kits; which may include a:
    • Portable Crib
    • Fitted sheet
    • Sleep sack
ELIGIBILITY

Erie County families who benefit from or are eligible for the WIC program, Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), or Medicaid, lack a safe sleep environment for their child, and have a child under the age of one or are at least 32 weeks pregnant qualify for the Cribs for Kids Sleep Safe program.
