PACIFIC TRELLIS, CROWN JEWELS PRODUCE, SOFIA PRODUCE, AND CF DALLAS ANNOUNCE CANTALOUPE RECALL EXPANSION IN MULTIPLE STATES DUE TO POTENTIAL HEALTH RISK
[Sandusky, Ohio, November 29, 2023] – In response to recent health concerns, Pacific Trellis, Crown Jewels Produce, Sofia Produce, and CF Dallas have issued recalls on whole fresh cantaloupes distributed in various regions between October 18 and 26. The affected cantaloupes were distributed in California, Illinois, Oklahoma, Texas, Wisconsin, Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan and sold in several retail supermarkets. The recall is related to an outbreak of salmonella that is linked to purchased cantaloupe.
The recall expansion follows a similar recall initiated by Pacific Trellis on November 24. Crown Jewels Produce, Sofia Produce, and CF Dallas subsequently expanded their recalls on November 22, 2023, due to concerns related to potential contamination in whole fresh cantaloupes. Additionally, CF Dallas has recalled fresh cut fruit products made from cantaloupes associated with the Sofia Produce recall.
As of November 24, 2023, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported a total of 99 cases from 32 states linked to this outbreak. The latest illness onset date was noted as November 10, 2023. Health officials are actively investigating to determine if other products are also connected to these illnesses.

The Erie County Health Department urges consumers and/or restaurants who have purchased whole fresh cantaloupes or related products within the specified distribution dates and locations are urged to dispose of the items or return them to the point of purchase for a refund. Individuals experiencing symptoms such as fever, nausea, diarrhea, or abdominal pain after consuming these products are advised to seek medical attention promptly.
