The Office of Epidemiology monitors, investigates, and contains public health threats to prevent the spread of illness across our region. Through active disease tracking and close partnership with regional healthcare providers, our team analyzes health data to rapidly identify and respond to local infectious disease outbreaks. We work 24/7 to safeguard public wellness by providing community education, managing contact tracing, and issuing timely health alerts when infectious risks arise.
In Ohio, there are over 80 different diseases that are reportable to public health. This means that an occurrence of cases or suspected cases of these diseases are reported by healthcare providers and laboratories to the local health department. Diseases that are reportable to public health in Ohio are outlined in Ohio Administrative Code Chapter 3701-3.
