FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ERIE COUNTY HEALTH DEPARTMENT
WATER QUALITY AWARENESS AT LOCAL BEACHES
This spring we have experienced high levels of rainfall that have been 5 to 6 inches above average for our area. These rain events have created runoff into rivers, creeks, streams and Lake Erie, which have had a negative impact on local water quality on area beaches. As a result, our Department has posted beach locations with water quality advisories, which indicate high levels of bacteria and may increase the likelihood of waterborne illness. When making a decision to go into the water our Department is encouraging residents and visitors to BE AWARE of water quality postings at beaches and online on our website.
