Meningococcal Disease Linked to Umrah Travel to Saudi Arabia

May 20, 2024 – The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has issued a Health Alert
Network (HAN) Health Advisory to inform healthcare providers and the public about recent cases of
meningococcal disease linked to Umrah travel to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). Since April
2024, there have been 12 reported cases of meningococcal disease associated with travel for Umrah,
including five cases in the United States, four in France, and three in the United Kingdom.
