2nd Measles Case Reported

Second Measles Case Reported in Region

[Sandusky, OH] – March 19, 2024 – A second case of measles has been reported in the Northwest Ohio Region, and the Erie County Health Department is urging families who attended two heavily trafficked events to be on the alert.

On Friday, March 8, 2024
Heritage Bank Center, 100 Broadway, Cincinnati, OH
7pm performance of Disney on Ice
Anyone who attended this show or who was in the building up to two hours after the performance may have been exposed to measles.

Wednesday, March 13, 2024
Sugarcreek Health Center, 6438 Wilmington Pike, Dayton, OH
Anyone who was in the build between 12:55pm and 4:00pm may have been exposed to measles.

If you attended the Disney on Ice event or were present at the Sugarcreek Health Center
during the above dates and times, please contact Taylor Kula, Epidemiologist with the Erie
County Health Department at 419-626-5623, ext. 5103.

Measles is a highly contagious disease and children who have become infected may spread the disease before showing any signs. The measles virus can live in the air for up to two hours after an infected person leaves the room. Nine out of 10 unvaccinated people who are exposed to measles will become infected. Symptoms may not occur for up to 21 days.

The CDC has issued a nationwide Health Alert regarding measles because of significant increases in cases throughout the United States and around the world. As of March 14, 2024, the CDC has been notified of 58 confirmed measles cases in the U.S., many are linked to international travel.

If you are unvaccinated or are unsure of your vaccination status, the Erie County Health
Department urges you to contact your primary care provider or the Erie County Health Department to schedule an appointment. The MMR vaccine is safe and effective with hundreds of doses given.
